A quick breakdown of modes:

Ionian: otherwise known as a Major scale. Often associated with feelings of happiness, simplicity, brightness, and clarity, the Ionian mode is used in many folk and popular songs to evoke a sense of well-being. “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”, “Ode to Joy”, and the Indiana Jones theme are three examples.

Aeolian: the natural minor scale. Dive into the depths of emotion with poignant introspection, bringing a sense of longing and depth to your music. This mode is known for its melancholy and introspective qualities, often used to convey sadness, longing, or a sense of mystery. “Scarborough Fair” and the main theme from “Schindler’s List” both use the Aeolian mode. Skyrim’s “Far Horizons” uses the Aeolian mode to create a vast, open, and slightly melancholic atmosphere. The famous main theme from “The Godfather” and Assassin’s Creed II “Ezio’s Family” utilize Aeolian.

Dorian: Experience the haunting beauty and mysterious allure of a minor scale with a raised 6th, giving it a unique blend of minor sadness with a touch of brightness. The Dorian mode is prevalent in Celtic and folk music, often used to create an ancient or haunting atmosphere. The Beatles “Eleanor Rigby”, the Mad Max Fury Road soundtrack, and Skyrim’s “Dragonborn” all use the Dorian mode. This scale can be heard in some of the Shire themes in Lord of the Rings, lending a blend of warmth and nostalgia with an underlying sense of adventure.

Mixolydian: This mode is similar to the major scale but with a lowered seventh, giving it a bluesy, jazzy feel that’s both uplifting and slightly edgy. Find warmth and optimism with the uplifting tones of Mixolydian. “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd and “Hey Jude” by The Beatles are classic examples of the Mixolydian mode. “Star Wars” and “Back to the Future” both frequently use the Mixolydian mode, which gives them a mystical, adventurous feel.

Lydian: This is a major scale with a raised 4th degree, giving it an ethereal, dreamy, and almost otherworldly sound. Lydian is often used in film scores to create a sense of wonder, magic, or the supernatural. The theme from “The Simpsons” and “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial Flying Theme” both feature the Lydian mode. Infuse your compositions with a celestial quality using the bright and expansive sounds of Lydian.

Phrygian: This is a minor scale with a lowered 2nd degree. Capture the essence of the ancient and exotic with the evocative and stirring Phrygian mode, perfect for adding drama and intrigue. This mode is foundational in flamenco music, adding drama and intensity to the melodies. “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane and the traditional flamenco piece “Malagueña” use the Phrygian mode. The movies “Gladiator” and “The Prince of Egypt” use the Phrygian mode throughout the scores to evoke the mystical and historical settings.

They’ve also included 20 sound-designed custom FX and ambient presets to expand your creativity. It all comes together in a complete, efficient and deeply-refined toolbox of chromatic articulations and powerful melodic elements with tempo-synching and key options, all built into a flexible, full-featured user interface. Create enchanting, dreamlike musical adventures that captivate and inspire. Embark on a sonic odyssey with Traveler’s Serenade.
